What is Self-Care?
Self-care means taking care of yourself so that you can live a healthy life. It means taking care of your physical, emotional, and nutritional needs. It is an individual's ability to prevent disease and maintain health without any support from a healthcare provider. Self-care includes everything related to staying healthy like medical care, hygiene, and nutrition when needed. Self-care not only includes your physical health but also your mental health. Self-care is what people do for themselves to maintain health and deal and prevent with diseases. Self-care can help us to prevent future health problems. Now, we came to know what exactly self-care is. Let's understand how we can do self-care.
HOW TO DO SELF-CARE
There are the following ways through which you can do self-care:-
1) Good Hygiene: Good hygiene is very important because it reduces the risk of diseases and also it improves the way how others look at you.
There are some ways to good hygiene.
(i) Brush your teeth daily: Brush your teeth once or twice daily. Brush your teeth when you wake up and go to bed.
(ii) Take a shower daily: A shower is very important because it removes all the dust and sweating from our bodies.
(iii) Wash your hands often: COVID-19 has taught us that everyone must wash their hands to reduce diseases. Wash your hands before and after the meal. Wash your hands after coming home with any soap or sanitizer.
iv) Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
v) Clean the infected surfaces and devices such as desks, doorknocks, bed sheets, phones, keys, etc.
vi) Inhale the fresh air by opening your windows and also you can go for a walk daily.
vii) Take care of your genitals: Maintaining good hygiene and taking care of your genitals (private parts) reduce the chance of developing problems like irritation.
How to take care of your genitals
i) Vagina is a very sensitive part of the body and it requires proper care to stay clean and healthy. Vagina itself is self-cleaning and it does not need to be washed but washing the vulva is must. Wash your vulva daily with warm water to keep the area clean around your vagina. Don't use any soap or genital washing products to wash/clean your vagina. Wash your vulva first and then wash your anus because bacteria from the anus can spread infection in the vagina. Wash the area daily to prevent vaginal infection and unpleasant odors and in the menstrual cycle, it's good to wash more than twice a day.
(ii)Penile: Wash your penis with normal water, not with any soap or genitals products. Most people wash their penis with mild soap but they don't know it can affect their penis. Carefully pull back and clean underneath the foreskin and tip of the penis. Don't pull back the foreskin with force because it can cause problems(bleed, scar) to the penis. After washing pull the foreskin forward to its normal position.
If you will not wash your penis carefully then a cheesy, thick, and white substance smegma will begin to gather.
Don't scrub this sensitive area. Make sure that you wash your hands properly before touching your penis. It is very important if you are handling something in your hands that can irritate your penis, so washing your hands is necessary.
2) Exercise: Exercise is not only beneficial for physical health but also for mental health. Exercise can remove troubling thoughts and it relaxes your mind just because you will be in a different environment. You can do exercise at home or you can go to the park or the gym. In exercise, you can do meditation, cycling, dancing, jogging, and gym exercise. It boosts energy and mood.
3) Eat healthy food: Eating healthy food is very important. One must take a proper diet on daily basis. It should be in mind that we have to take proper vitamins, carbohydrates, protein, minerals, etc daily. We should eat food at the proper time because it gives us energy. Do you know when we do not eat food then sometimes you get a headache, low energy and you can't focus? When you nourish yourself mentally, physically, and emotionally with good food and nutrition. It's the ultimate form of self-care. Eat when you feel hungry and also take multivitamins every day.
4) Take proper sleep: Sleep is an important part of self-care. Do you want to increase your productivity, energy for doing work, and concentration level?
Want to live a happier and healthier?
If yes, then take proper sleep every day. Don't waste your time in chattings at late night. Try to give that time to yourself and take a sleep of 7 to 8 hours daily.
5) Treat yourself: It's also very important. You should take and pedicure once in a week or in twice weekly. Massage your whole body daily so that your body will get proper moisturizer. Whether it's a boy or girl both should take a facial once or twice in a month.
6) Invest in yourself: I believe we should invest our time in ourselves only. If you think you can do this then don't much, start doing that but that thing should be beneficial for you not waste.
7) Spend some time alone: Everyone should spend some time alone means you should give some time to yourself like what you want, what you think, and try to discuss all these with yourself.
8) Avoid alcohol: Don't drink alcohol because it is harmful to your health. To avoid drinking alcohol make yourself busy and don't keep alcohol in your house and also don't go where you know that someone will give you cigarettes or alcohol.
9) Be happy: You should be happy all the time. If there is some problem in your life then don't think much about that and be calm and happy then you can concentrate on your work without any tension.
10) Drink juice: There is a variety of different juices that a person can drink. Different fruit juices offer various health benefits. A person should drink juice daily. If you can't drink daily then drink thrice in a week.
Take care of yourself to live a long and healthy life.
